Minimum booking 12 adults. £19.50 per head or £16.00 for two courses. Beverages extra.We are fully licensed. We look forward to serving our usual range of moderately-priced wines by the bottle or glass, and beer by the bottle. We don’t usually stock aperitifs or spirits but we’re happy to discuss whatever you’d like. In this menu
V stands for vegetarian; V* means vegetarian and can be made vegan if you tell us when you book.Starters
- Cranberry, Madeira and mushroom paté with Parmesan toast V*
- Oak Roast Salmon with dill mustard and wholemeal toast: fresh salmon lightly cured, roasted in hot oak smoke – rich and moist and tasty.
- Warm goats’ cheese salad
V Creamy, tangy goats’ cheese on a crostini (grilled slice of ciabata bread rubbed with garlic, seasoned and drizzled with olive oil). Served with mixed leaves and a lemon salad dressing.- Chestnut risotto cakes
V* The risotto mix comes in a crisp pastry case and is served on a bed of baby spinach drizzled with brandy herb butter (or a dairy-free alternative).
Main courses (all served with seasonal vegetables)
- Traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings: our accompaniments include bread sauce, cranberry sauce, our own deliciously piquant sloe jelly, and two stuffings – one made of apricots, the other chestnut and sausage meat.
- Chestnut and cranberry ring V An apple, cranberry, leek and chestnut loaf with goats’ cheese melting in the centre, all wrapped in crisp puff pastry.
- Roast butter nut squash
V* with chestnuts, garlic mushrooms and a red wine gravy.- Italian venison stew: made with local venison, this is an Agrodolce dish - cooked long and slow in a sweet-and-sour marinade of honey, sweet wine, dried fruit, vinegar and spices originating in Roman times.
- Roast loin of pork with honey, cloves and ginger, served with a purée of apples and ginger.
Desserts (all suitable for vegetarians)
- Christmas pudding V* Individual puddings made to a secret Herb Garden recipe. Very fruity but light and fresh-flavoured. With brandy sauce.
- Damson and white chocolate terrine
- Chianti-poached stuffed pears
V* Whole pears poached in a spicy wine syrup and stuffed with a Christmassy mix of nuts and dried fruits.- Chocolate Stollen: a chocolate version of Stollen (a traditional, light Christmas cake from Germany) this has flavours of almonds and dried fruits soaked in rum and orange zest.
