Open Mike Nights at the Herb Garden are attracting musicians from around Powys and beyond. From Aberystwyth to Hereford and Presteigne to name a few.
A typical Open Mike night, hosted by Angela Verley, has a local lineup of musicians and singers with some poetry interludes. Members of the local band Empire of Light provide Blues to Funk; Singer and guitarist Adrian adds a touch of comedy, and our very own Paul Jay on Keyboards with Singer Penny Nicholson, will sing anything from Gershwin to Folk to Jack Thackery with the odd monologue thrown in. Angela Verley and Anne Hill are on hand to fill the gaps with unaccompanied folk ballads and well known songs that you may know and sing along to.
Visiting artists on Feb 7th
Singer and songwriter Phil Heinricy from Hereford, who decribes himself as an ‘All Round Good Egg’, sang some well crafted ballads of his own creation.
Singer and guitar duo Jerry and Lourane, from Nolton village near Presteigne entertained us with some beautiful lyrical numbers.
Visitors to the Town
A couple from Bolton, who were enjoying a special Valentine weekend at the Metropole Hotel, had lunched at the Herb Garden Community Café early in the day. They spotted a poster for the Open Mike session. So along they came.
Accompanied by Paul on keyboards Penny sang The First Time Ever I saw Your Face especially for the couple which made their visit to Llandrindod and The Herb Garden Café Open Mike session an evening to remember.
